UPDATE 26/03/2022
-------------------------
Since his joints have deteriorated, we had to find a foster home for him to give him the care he needs.
A place where the sun rays are very good for Erik's bones in a natural way.
He is also given tablets to strengthen his bones (HYALLORAL), and in order for him to breathe better because the air passage is restricted due to the partial closure of the valve, he is given vitamins that help to strengthen all the cartilages involved in the function of the air passage for his breathing.
He has also been provided with a wheelchair to help strengthen all of his joints.
All of this care is paying off, and Erik has noticed a marked improvement.
=============================================================================
Our dear Erik was not a street dog, he originally came from a home of his own.
Unfortunately, Erik was not treated well by his owner and was abandoned on the streets.
Despite Erik suffering from the owner's mistreatment, he was so loyal to his owner that he returned to him over and over again. The neighbors caught on to this and spoke to the owner to place Erik in Albayyasa's care.
They noticed that Erik's condition was getting worse and sadder. After a few days, the owner agrees and gave us Erik's papers. While he was arranging everything with the shelter, Erik was staying with the neighbors for a few days. They told us that Erik was shy in the beginning, but then quickly gained trust and became very cuddly. Erik lived with several dogs of all sizes and breeds during this time and had no problems with them.
You could tell this little survivor already knew a life indoors, as he behaved properly and very much enjoyed a soft snuggle.
He is also good at walking on a leash and loves to be in the passenger seat as a passenger in the car, keeping an eye on things.
Unfortunately, the neighbors could not keep him and he had to move to the shelter. His condition worsened shortly after and we took him to the vet. He found out that Erik was positive for Leishmaniasis. This was shown by weight and fur loss.
A necessary treatment led to Erik's recovery. He is doing much better now. This is also shown by the fact that his weight has doubled and his fur has grown back beautifully. He now looks like he has been reborn.
Leishmaniasis is not a death sentence!
With mostly inexpensive medications and good nutrition, these dogs can still have a long life expectancy.
He is quite a wonderful boy with heart loving basic character. Whenever caretakers are present at the shelter, he seeks their closeness to get some cuddles.
He also loves to throw himself in front of people and be cuddled.
